ATHLETICS at TCHS
Pope John Paul II was an outstanding athlete, especially in soccer and skiing. The Pope had the following to say about athletics: “Sports run the risk of degrading man if it is not based on and supported by the human virtues of loyalty, generosity, and respect of the rules of the game as well as respect for the player. These are virtues that harmonize well with the Christian spirit because they demand a capacity for self-control, self denial, sacrifice, and humility. Sports are not merely the exercise of muscles, but it is the school of moral values and of training in courage, in perseverance, and in overcoming laziness and carelessness. Besides, it is an antidote for weakness, discouragement and dejection in defeat. There is no doubt that these values are of greatest interest for the formation of a personality which considers sports not an end in itself, but as a means to total and harmonious physical, moral and social development.”

Under the guidance of our Athletic Director, Mr. Gary Belger, the athletes and coaches involved in Trinity Catholic High School’s athletic program fully embrace the spirit of Pope John Paul II’s message. We provide a wide range of interscholastic sports and strongly encourage all of our students to become involved in our athletic program, whether it is football, cross country, volleyball, tennis, baseball, marching band, or cheerleading.

It is a requirement for every coach to pray with his or her athletes during practice and before games or matches. We ask the Lord Jesus Christ, especially through the intercession of His Blessed Mother, to safeguard the health, safety, and well being of all participants, fans, and officials, and to instill in them an abiding sense of good sportsmanship, mutual respect, and good judgment.
